Obituary, 1932. Helen Carissa Marble, eldest daughter of Hiram and Oliva Marble, was born in Lafayette County Wisconsin, on April 16, 1842 and departed this life on Nov. 7, 1932, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Tinnie B. Thayer, at Elm Creek, Nebraska.

She was married to Joseph Lewis Van Matre on October 28, 1858 and to this union were born three children, two of whom survive her; Mrs. Fannie Rima of Rising City, and Mrs. Joella Ells of Winslow, IL., and John Calvin who died in infancy. Her husband passed away on August 20, 1862.

On November 12, 1865 she was married to Carah Noble Van Matre and to this union were born four children; three of whom survive her; James A. Van Matre of Rising City, Ferdinand D. Van Matre of Clear Field, South Dakota and Mrs. Tinnie Thayer of Elm Creek, Nebr., and Mrs. Birdie Mae Jackson of Cadet, Wis., who passed away Nov. 11, 1919. Her husband passed away on April 29, 1919.

Having moved to Winslow, Ill. with her parents during her early childhood, she resided near there until 1881 when she moved to Rising City, where she made her home until after the death of her husband in 1919, from which time she lived with her children. At an early age, she joined the United Brethern Church and remained a faithful member.

She was a devoted wife and mother, her kind, generous and cheerful disposition was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her patience during her declining years was remarkable. She had one hundred twenty decendants, and hundred three of them living. She leaves to mourn her departure two sisters, five children, twenty-one grandchildren, sixty-two great grand children and fifteen great-great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services in charge of Mr. McVay, were conducted by Rev. Neth and the body was laid to rest in Circe Mound Cemetery
