• Obituary, 1894. THE LAST SLEEP
On Sunday about noon Jacob Bertalot, an old and respected citizen of this place, died at his home. Mr. Beartalot was a cabinetmaker by trade, and had conducted a furniture and undertaking business here for a number of years. The funeral was held Tuesday forenoon and was quite largely attended.
Jacob Beartalot was born June we, 1823 and died April 15, 1894, aged 70 years, 9 months and 2 days. Mr. Beartalot was born in Humburg, Germany. He emigrated to this country in the year 1851. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Cook, Jan. 18, 1853 in the state of New York. Emigrated from that state to Illinois and located at Oneco, Ill. He leaves his beloved companion and four sons and seven grand children to mourn his loss. Four of his children, two sons and two daughters, preceeded him in infancy to the other world. Mr. Beartalot was baptized in infancy and made a confession of religion a number of years ago. Owing to his affliction and dullness of hearing he has not been able to attend church for a number of years. But his companion stated that he seemed at peace and restful in his last hours and that he was ready to die. We hope and trust this may be true and that he may be forever at rest. Rev. D. K. Fulcason, officiated. He preached from the test found in Ecclesiates 12:7, "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was; and the spirit shall return to the God who gave it".
Jacob married Elizabeth Cook. (Elizabeth Cook was born on 14 Oct 1830 in Germany, died on 17 Feb 1917 in Stephenson County, Illinios and was buried in Orangeville Cemetery, Orangeville Township, Stephenson County, Illinois.)
