Obituary: Preston National Republican, 3 Aug 1882, Sumner Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota. Charles Hanley of Jordan Township is dead. He was attacked with a pain in the chest, while stopping on his return home from Rochester, at the residence of Hon. O. H. Page, at Pleasant Grove, on Thursday of last week, and in ten minutes was a corpse. His family were sent for who returned to his late residence with their beloved dead whose remains they entombed last Sunday. Than Mr. Hanley no better citizen resided in the town of Jordan. He was a man of thought, energy, enterprise, and a farmer well qualified to fill any public position he would accept. Several years ago he was elected county commissioner and earned the reputation of having been one of the most useful members who have ever been on the board. He had strong convictions and was prompt to act when duty led. He was a patriot who believed that government resides in the people. His family and friends have sustained a great loss. In their sorrow the National Republican participates. We have lost a friend, a helper in whom resided the very soul of honor. Fillmore county is bereaved of one of their best citizens. May his spirit bask in eternal joys.
