Obituary: Spring Valley Tribune, 28 Aug 1930, Olmsted County, Minnesota. Samuel Hanley, 88 years old and a farmer of Jordan Township in Fillmore County, Minnesota for 67 years, died in a hospital at Rochester last Thursday after a lingering illness. Samuel was born in Vermont on April 18, 1842. He preempted the farm eight miles southwest of Chatfield in 1863 and had lived there since. He was township treasurer for 52 years and was treasurer of school district No. 98 for 40 years.

In 1885, he married Cora Bell Goldsmith, who died in 1916. Three sons and five daughters survive. They are Charles and George of Chatfield; Forest of Wykoff; Mrs. Harvey Anway of Hansell, Iowa; Mrs. August Zimmerman of Simpson; Mrs. Clarence Baker of Wykoff; Mrs. W. H. Baker of Chatfield; and Mrs. Herman Meyers of Spring Valley.

Masonic funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church at Chatfield Friday afternoon by Rev. J. D. Gibbs. Burial was in the Chatfield Cemetery.
