Obituary. James Jackson Philpott was born in Liberty, Vernon County, Wisconsin s/o William Blair and Nancy Jane (Elliott) Philpott and grandson of Barton and Catharine (Funderburk) Philpott. James' parents moved to Wisconsin from McMinn County, Tennessee in 1865 where they lived for 9 years before moving by wagon train to Mason Valley in Benton County, Arkansas in 1874. James married Charity Scoggins in Arkansas. They were the parents of Nora Jane 1889-1969, husband Warren J. Gailey, Leta Olive, born 1891, married W.W. Roberts, Alabama 1894-1978, married Lonnie Earl Nichols, Sr. A sandstone marked James Jackson's grave in the 1930's but has since disappeared.


James married Charity M. Scoggins, daughter of Mathew C. Scoggins and Charity Denton, on 4 Nov 1888 in Benton County, Arkansas. (Charity M. Scoggins was born in Mar 1870 in Arkansas and died about 1909.)
