• Note:. Was this John Shortridge?"Sometime around 1813 John Shortridge and Isaiah Drury had left the Shortridge Fort, located near East Germantown, IN , on business. On their way back, Shrotridge, who was wearing Drury's overcoat, was shot by Indians and died the next day. Since Isaiah Drury had some difficulty with the notorious Indian, John Green, there seemed little doubt in the minds of those acquainted with the circumstances, that Shortridge had been mistaken for Drury. A coffin was made of planks taked from the floor of the fort and a grave was dug in the se corner of the fort. It is said that afterward several members of the Shortridge family were buried in this same spot as well as some other early pioneers. The ground that this fort was built upon has been plowed over numerous times and the exact locoation of the fort and the burials is not known to the writer. The wife of Elisha Willets died of fever and was also buried in this Fort. She died within days of John Shortridges's death."
John married Nancy Wren in 1782. (Nancy Wren was born in 1756 in Harrison County, Kentucky and died in 1797 in Bourbon County, Kentucky, United States.)
