Noted events in his life were:
• Census, 1880, Wisconsin, Jeneau County, Elroy Township, District 196, Image 2 of 14. Age 25 yrs., Laborer, father and mother born Ireland.
• Note, 1913. Bernard and his wife Margurite lived in Elroy, WI. They established a farm of about 30 acres. Bernard also mined a stone quarry on his property and built or helped build most of the early homes in Elroy. The Cain children sold milk to other Elroy residents and the family attended St. Patrick's Church. Bernard and Margurite donated land for St. Patrick's Cemetary. In 1886 and 1896, Bernanrd's mother Mary sold him some land. In April 1913, the Cains moved to Montana, staking out a ranch near Olive.
Bernard married Margurite "Margret" Coughlin, daughter of John Coughlin and Unknown, on 20 Jun 1875 in New Lisbon, Juneau, Wisconsine. (Margurite "Margret" Coughlin was born on 24 Aug 1853 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and died on 3 Sep 1914 in Broadus, Powder River, Montana.)
