KENNETH WAYNE COVERT

Kenneth Wayne Covert of Glendale was born December 12, 1930 in Haxtun to Wayne and Zelma Covert. He passed away on Saturday, October 8, 1994 at Rose Medical Center in Denver after a long illness.

Ken grew up on a farm south of Lamar, Nebraska on the old Fuqua Homestead. He attended Mt. Tabor Elementary School and graduated from Chase County High School in Imperial, Nebraska in 1948.

In 1950 Ken married Wanda Ford. To this union three children were born: Kathy, Becky and Kenneth Jr.

On April 7, 1975 he married Nancy Hamilton. She had three sons, Fred Shannon and Brian, who lived with them on the farm.

Ken was a "farm boy" through and through. He loved to work the soil. He was also especially fond of cattle and dogs.

In his early adult life, Ken moved to Denver and drove a transport truck. His career in trucking took him to all 48 contiguous states and to several provinces in Canada. He logged several million miles and had a wonderful safety record.

In the early 1970s Ken changed careers. He became a top volume salesman with Coastal States Life Insurance Co. After several years in the insurance business, Ken returned to work along side his dad on the family farm in Lamar, Nebraska.

He worked the farm for several years and then returned to trucking. He continued to drive until January of 1988 when his health failed him. In the past several years, Ken worked as a cattle buyer for friends and ranchers throughout the region.

He was a warm and outgoing person, blessed with many life-long friendships. He loved music and was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Preceding him in death was his father.

Survivors include his mother Zelma Covert of Wheat Ridge and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Services were conducted Wednesday, October 12, 1994 at Schmidt-Bauche Mortuary Chapel in Holyoke with Pastor Jim Crist of Holyoke Assembly of God officiating. Interment was at Green Lawn Cemetery in Lamar, Nebraska.
