Christian's original will can be found in Trenton Wills, Book M, p. 98. It is dated May 24, 1780, probated August 27, 1781. It stated that he was then "weak in body, but of sound and perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto Almighty God therefor," thus disposed of his "worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life:" (1) To 'Altye, my beloved wife, all my plantation whereon I now live, with all my negroes, stock, household goods and utensils of husbandry as long as she shall continue my widow, and in case she shall happen to marry then she shall deliver and surrender the same to my executors for the use of my children." (2) After his wife's remarriage, or death, his sons, Cornelius and Benjamin, to have the farm "containing about 350 acres," Benjamin to have 200 acres on the west end with the buildings, and the remainder to go to Cornelius. The woodland to be divided to each in proportion to the quantity of clearled land. They to pay for the land 1400 pounds in proportion to the quantity of land each should have. (3) To his sons, Jacob, William, Peter, Abraham, John, Aaron, Christian, Isaac, and Joseph, and daughters, Mary, Sarah, Altje, Nelly and Jenny, each 100 pounds to be paid by Cornelius and Benjamin. (4) The remainder of his personal estate to be divided between Cornelius and Benjamin. (5) His sons, William, Abraham and Christian, to be the executors.
