Obituary, 1955. Edwin Charlwood Hammond, son of Luke and Harriet Hammond, was born April 12, 1868 at Plainfield, Il. He died March 10, 1955, at Grand Island, Neb. As a boy, Edwin arrived in the vicinity of Scandia, Kan., with his parents, and brothers and sisters,.

On August 11, 1894, he was united in married Elizabeth Hoffman. To this union six daughters were born. The couple pioneered in Oklahoma where they homestead from 1895 until 1902. At this time they moved to the farm near Courtland, Kan. This became the family home for 44 years, when they retired and in 1953 their winters were spent at the home of their daughter Mrs. Edna Williams, in Grand Island, Neb.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth, five daughters, Mrs. Edna Williams, Mrs, Henry (Lydia) Dick , Miss Hazel Hammond, Mrs, H. L. (Rose) Wampler, Mrs. S. L. (Chitstinna) McCaig; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and other relatives and many friends.

Interment was made in the Grand Island cemetery.
