Vera Mae Callihan, oldest child of Richard Diers and Pearl Ault Diers, was born September 5, 1937 near Hunter, Kansas and passed away Saturday morning, October 22, 1977 at 1:20 at the St. Joseph Hospital of Concordia, Kansas at the age of 40 years, one month and 16 days after a long struggle with cancer.
Vera graduated from grade school and high school at Hunter, Kansas and attended the Salt City Business College of Hutchinson, Kansas.
On January 3, 1957 she was united in marriage with Charles R. (B0b) Callihan at Richmond, Indiana. To this union four children wore born, three daughters and one son, Becky, Terry, Bobbie and Debbie. Vera was a member of the Curtis, Nebraska Lutheran Church.
In 1970 they moved to Wellfleet, Nebraska, where she lived until she passed away. In August 1977 Vera came to Concordia to stay with her mother and dad as she was unable to be alone. She entered the Concordia hospital on September 23 where she remained until her death.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Lee Diers.
She leaves to mourn her death her husband Bob and four children, Mrs. Randall Schultz (Becky) of Concordia and Terry, Bobbie and Debbie of the home; her parents, Richard and Pearl Diers of Concordia; a sister, Mrs. Ron (Carolyn) Gendre of Garden Plain, Kansas; two brothers, Roy Diers, of Hastings, Nebraska and Gerald Diers of Concordia, Kansas and their families and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many friends.
Casket bearers were her uncles, Clifton Ault, Raymond Ault, Wayne Ault, Bill Ault, Walter Diers, and Arlie Haymond.
Funeral services were Monday, October 24, 1977 at 2:30 p.m. at the McDonald Funeral home in Beloit, Kansas with Rev. Walter Laughlin of Concordia, Kansas officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Lillian Johnson, soloist of Concordia, and Mrs. Jane Cunningham of Jamestown, organist.
Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery at Hunter, Kansas.
Vera married Charles Robert Callihan, son of Charles Delmas Callihan and Georgia Wheeler, on 3 Jan 1957 in Richmond, IN. (Charles Robert Callihan was born on 21 Nov 1937 in Greenup, Kentucky.)
