BERTRAND-Funeral services for Audrey J. Fuqua will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 3 p.m. with Pastor Glenn Frecks, officiating. Following the traditional funeral, cremation will take place and a private family inurnment will be in the Kearney Cemetery at Kearney.
Audrey Junell Fuqua, 58, of Bertrand, formerly of Stamford and Orleans, died on Monday, June 26, 2006 at Bertrand. She as born Feb. 16, 1948 at McCook, Neb., the youngest of four children of Alva and Nettie (Hayward) Colson.
She was baptized as a child in Kearney. She received her primary education at McCook and Kearney, graduating from Kearney High School with the Class of 1966. She then pursued higher education to pursue a career in cosmetology.
On Sept. 30, 1966 she married Rex R. Fuqua and to this union two daughters were born: Mishelle and Nicole. The family made their home in Kearney until the death of her husband, Rex, on April 8, 1979. She then resided in the Orleans and Stamford area, where she worked as a cosmetologist in Alma, Orleans and Stamford and focused on raising her daughters. She continued to live in Harlan County until moving to Bertrand in 2002 where she resided until her death.
Mr. Fuqua enjoyed making quilts, cooking, gardening, taking care of her animals and spending time outdoors.
Survivors include: her two daughters, Mishelle E. Wallander and her husband, Bradley of Bertrand, and Nicole J. Robinson and her husband, Bill of Stamford; five grandchildren, Jessica, Ashley and Brandon Wallander of Bertrand, Shayla Robinson of Stamford and Brittany Robinson of New Jersey; two step-grandchildren, Jarrod and Stefanee Robinson of Stamford; two sisters, Dorothy Medley and her husband, Larry of Kearney, and Diane Sturm and her special friend, Fred Eggert of Fairbury; one brother, Jim Colson, and his wife, Vira of Kimball; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, Rex, she was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Hope, in infancy.
Mrs. Fuqua will lie in state at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Wednesday, June 28, from 1 to 9 p.m. with the family greeting, 7- 8:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her memory. The Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege is in charge of arrangements.
Audrey married Rex Ray Fuqua, son of Clarence Philip Fuqua and Lillie Madge Smith, on 30 Sep 1966 in Nebraska. (Rex Ray Fuqua was born on 16 Apr 1947 in Buffalo County, Nebraska, died on 8 Apr 1979 in Morgan, Morgan County, Utah and was buried in Kearney Cemetery, Kearney, Buffalo County, Nebraska.)
