Noted events in his life were:
• Obituary, 6 Aug 1925, The Nelson Gazette. John Davis, an early settler of this county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Cliff Lamb, Friday evening. He had been in rather failing health for some time, but was confined to his bed only ten days. He was 86 years of age. A short service was held at the Lamb home at one o'clock Tuesday and then the regular funeral service was at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Herb Zeigler, at Mt. Clare, at two o'clock. A large concourse of friends gathered on the lawn where the service was held. All the children, except two, were present at the last solemn rites. The children are: four sons and four daughters. They are: Will and Rollie of Blue Rapids, Kansas; Bert of Montana; and John of Mexico, N.Y.; and Mrs. Herb Zeigler of Mt. Clare; Mrs. Lillie Yohe of Ashby, Nebr.; Mrs. Bertha Corwin of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Mrs. Mattie Lamb of Nelson.
John married Mary Elizabeth Griffith on 26 Jun 1865 in Fort Leavenworth, Iowa. (Mary Elizabeth Griffith was born on 22 Dec 1845 in Norristown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, died on 22 Jan 1919 in Mt. Clare, Nuckolls County, Nebraska and was buried in Beulah Cemetery, Nuckolls County, Nebraska.)
